Anti Aging Cosmeceuticals

What is all the buzz about anti-aging cosmeceuticals? The market is flooded with beauty lotions, creams, serums and all sorts of potions. There is an obsession with anti-aging and wellness that has fueled the demand for cosmeceutical products, which has grown drastically in the last five years. According to a recent article by Simon Pitman from cosmeticsdesign.com, the cosmeceutical niche market continues to grow despite the decline in the cosmetics industry as a whole this year.

So what are anti aging cosmeceuticals?

A cosmeceutical is a cross between cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, and is a topical product used to treat the skin from the outside. It has the unique ability to penetrate into the dermal or living layer of the skin and will effect a change from the inside out. Cosmeceuticals can improve skins appearance by delivering nutrients that are necessary for healthy skin.  View anti-aging cosmeceuticals available from Skin Deep Cosmeceuticals.

Popular Types of Anti Aging Cosmeceuticals

Peptides
As we grow older our skin produces less collagen, even though the ability for Fibroblasts in older skin to produce collagen is still present. Peptides will stimulate Fibroblast collagen production to make your skin look better. Collagen is destroyed but not replaced. When skin's collagen breaks down it will form certain peptides that will act as a signal to let your skin know it has been damaged and to make new collagen. By applying peptides directly to your skin it will signal to your body to produce more collagen, thus giving skin a younger appearance.

Copper Peptides

Since peptides are very small and can penetrate to the deepest layers of the skin, copper is often added to peptides so that the serum or topical can deliver copper to the living layers of the skin. Copper is used as a skin healing agent and has been found to be more effective than Vitamin C creams and Retin-A for developing more collagen.

For a copper peptide cosmeceutical product to work it should be a serum or thin layer of cream that is easily penetrable to the skin. Thick creams will sit on the skins surface and wash off before they are absorbed and can work. Serums are known for their ability to penetrate both the top and bottom layers of the skin, which offer the full effect of these anti-aging cosmeceuticals to the skin.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids

Alpha Hydroxy Acids, also known as AHA's or fruit acids, have become another popular anti-aging cosmeceutical product that works to make the skin look younger by reducing the calcium ion levels which promotes cell growth and slows cell differentiation. The most common use for alpha hydroxy acids are chemical peels, which achieve results similar to microdermabrasion.  Glycolic Acid Peels are very popular and effective treatments for reducing wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and acne.

To use an alpha hydroxy acid product you must also use sunscreen that has UVA and UVB protection of at least 15 SPF or higher. We recommend using the
Anti-Aging Sunblock, which is for all skin types and contains Emblica, Vitamin E and Aloe Vera. This sunblock reduces the appearance of sun induced premature aging while tightening and toning the skin. It is non oily and will not clog pores and has no waxes or mineral oils.

A popular type of anti-aging cosmeceutical product using alpha hydroxy acids is glycolic acid, which works to resurface the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Glycolic acid does not enter the blood stream when applied to your skin, and is one of the safest methods of skin renewal.  We recommend using the
Glycolic Microderm Cleansing Scrub for a gentle exfoliation of dead skin cells. This product will result in smooth, glowing and radiant skin. It is paraben free and contains 3% Glycolic acid. The Glycolic Resurfacing Night Cream reduces fine lines and wrinkles and contains 15% Glycolic acid and should be used as a light moisturizer.
